Cheap Ink Cartridges - What Are Your Choices?

By: A R Thompson

As well as having a PC in the home many people also buy a printer as well. The only problem is there are a large number of different types of printers and each one will need essential components to ensure that they function effectively. They all need power and they all need ink cartridges. But what puts many people off buying a good quality printer is the cost of the replacement cartridges.

The cost of ink cartridges will depend upon the make and model of machine and for more advanced machines you could expect to pay in the region of $40 for just one cartridge. Because of these high costs more and more people are looking for ways to buy them cheaper and so save money. Below we look at the alternatives that people can now use in order to get cheaper ink cartridges.

Firstly you could opt for the refill kits which are inexpensive. However the task of actually squirting the ink into the empty cartridge using the syringe provided can not only be messy but time consuming as well. Although it is a simple task to refill ink cartridges it is better if you arrange for a professional to carry out the work for you as the cartridge may then cease to work.

But again with this you need to find someone close to where you live who is capable of doing the task. Otherwise you will need to send away the cartridges to be refilled which means that your printer will be out of action until such time as the cartridges have been returned to you refilled.

But if you do not want to deal with this type of hassle then a much easier and cheaper option available to you is to buy third party ink cartridges. These are made by companies other than the original printer equipment maker and are much cheaper to buy, in fact on average you can save between 30 and 90% on the cost of buying those cartridges produced by the manufacturer of your printer.

Over recent years companies such HP and Epson has seen a marked reduction in the number of OEM ink cartridges being sold. Simply because people are suddenly realizing and choosing to buy third party ones instead. What makes matters even worse is that the prices of printers have come down considerably and in some cases to a situation where it is cheaper to replace the whole printer rather than just the cartridges in it.

Although a few years back the ink used in both third party and refill kits was not of the same standard as that found in the brand makes. This situation has now changed and the quality of ink is as good as any you will get in the printer manufacturers ones.

So if you are looking for an efficient and economical way of saving money on ink cartridges for your printer then it may be well worth your while considering the alternatives mentioned above. Certainly most cheaper ink cartridges for printers today will offer you the same high standard of printing as the OEM versions are likely to.
